Well, it is considerably less satisfying to laugh at life's fortunes, because frankly, such is just too damn obvious.
And makes one come off as pretentious...

oh, Huck, go ahead and laugh at that too! Maybe double-laugh - one for the joy of it (I mean, what expressed greater gratitude than laughter, really?), and one for the nod to the fleeting...

And I think pretentious laughter is really only ever a snigger, and not really laughter at all.
