That poor whale.

Lol! You're probably right, Mike. We think it's cute but the whale is probably thinking, "I hate humans. And I really hate this tank and the things they make me do for my supper."

What about the poor kid, chucked into near-freezing water for the photo-op? I mean, it's arctic marine life, safe bet they keep the water a wee bit on the chilly side. But given the Chinese attitude on population control, maybe it's not much of a stretch.

WHAT is wrong with you people? Does that Beluga look distressed? NO! He looks like Marcia Cross.

Furthermore, there is lots of anecdotal evidence that whales and other maritime mammals are often friendly to humans. Maybe not the Orca, but dolphins have been known to save human lives (my step-father included). Didn't you watch Flipper?!

Anyway, they'd be smarter to let us rot, given what we do to them, but I'd trade places that kid faster than he could start to piss in the pool.

Sorry, Kissyface. I can't help myself. I would point out, however, what seems obvious from close study of the photo--the whale is gnawing Yang Yang's nose off.

P.S. Your father was saved by a dolphin?

And so Yang-Yang reciprocates. I would would eat both their noses, they're so cute.

My step-father, not my father-father. He grew up in Honolulu, was out swimming one day, and was encircled by a shark. A dolphin chased the predator away. The funny thing is, Joe never saw it, but everybody on the beach did.

He was an interesting fellow. I wrote about him at length a year ago in March.
